A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR TOM FILKINS
Welcome to the alternative universe of the Wright Brothers. I wrote this satire back in 2003 for The Man Will Never Fly Memorial Society, Internationale; if you’ve never heard of it, it’s The First Flight Society. They meet on December 16th each year on the eve of the commemoration of the Wright flight. They claim the flight never happened, that it’s all a big scam. Imagine Wilbur & Orville losing their determination to fly and being visited on the night of December 16-17 1903 by the Spirits of Aviation.
Well. It occurred to me that visitors to the Outer Banks might be amused by the show, so I rewrote the script for a general audience, and that’s what you’ll see in our show. My cast and crew are dedicated actors, although most of us earn our livings in more pedestrian pursuits. Feel free to ask questions or make comments to any of us following the show.
